It’s been a little while since we’ve heard some new music from Eric Herman. He’s back, sans The Invisible Band and adding The Puppy Dogs, with his latest album, Magic Beans, releasing in March. The first single is “Googly Eyes”. Eric describes the song as “funny, catchy, with a Schoolhouse Rock feel.” He adds, “this was one of those rare ‘woke up at 3 a.m. and here was a song, virtually complete’ kind of things.”
The song follows a kid who loves to “enhance” everything with plastic googly eyes. As the song states, “everything’s better with googly eyes.” “Everything” includes monuments, bridges, historical structures, even classical works of art. Eric says, “the kid is seen as ‘vandalizing’ monuments and art works, but it’s his art. He adds the song “sets up the idea that we shouldn’t take things too seriously, which comes back in the medley at the end.”
Eric Herman and his daughter storyboarded the video and the animation is by Geoffrey Sinn and team at Studio Ace Productions. Watch the video below for “Googly Eyes”.
